CAPI offers a variety of professional training workshops and activities that help make teaching high school a more enjoyable and successful experience for both teachers and students alike.
The Secondary Reading Institute is a joint effort by the California Professional Development Institute (CPDI), the Collaborative Academic Preparation Initiative (CAPI), and the California Reading and Literature Project (CRLP). Its purpose is to help teachers meet the college preparation needs of targeted high schools in the San Francisco region and to align instruction with State and CSU standards.
The Saturday Workshops are held three times per semester and are designed by the SFSU CAPI coordinators to support high school teachers with issues identified during the collaboration process.
CAPI math teachers give regular presentations to high school math departments to explain the CSU expectations and requirements for incoming students. Alignment of standards, the MAP workbook, and math assessment tests are discussed. Teachers are advised to administer a CSU-developed assessment and encourage students to become involved with the MAP program.
