Peer Edit Guide: Answer these questions while reviewing your peers essay.
- Identify the thesis statement by underlining it. Does the thesis statement guide the content of the essay and state the authors angle on the subject? If yes, how? If no, give suggestions.
- Do the body paragraphs support the thesis? If yes how? If no, give suggestions.
- Do the topic sentences introduce the subject of the paragraph? If yes how? If no, give suggestions.
- Do the body paragraphs include a variety of evidence, including personal experience, quotes, facts and opinions? Which kind of evidence do you find most effective? Why? Do you feel that each paragraph has enough evidence? If not, give suggestions.
- Identify quotations from the articles used to support the arguments. Is the quote introduced? Did the author express his or her ideas about the quote and connect it to his/her main point? Make sure the quotation is used correctly and edit if necessary.
- Identify coordinators used. Are they joining equal parts (grammar and meaning)? Give suggestions.
- Identify transition words or phrases.
- Identify sentences that are vague, run-ons or fragments. Give suggestions. Identify at least 3 sentences.
