Writing: Developing Surveys

I. Using the Survey:

  1. Form a hypothesis about ____________ and write it down here: _____________________________________________________
  2. Choose your subjects. Be sure that your sample represents the population you are studying.
  3. Develop 5–10 questions that will elicit information to confirm (prove) or negate (disprove) your hypothesis.
  4. Tabulate your findings and draw conclusions based on your findings.

II. Relfections:

  1. Look at each of the questions on your survey. How are they phrased? Does the phrasing encourage a biased response? Why or why not?
  2. Based on your answer to the above, what can you say about the validity of your survey results?
